Our Story

FTL Lore

The story of FTL started in a small studio in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with a song called Northern Lights.

Well, that’s only partially true :) It is true that Northern Lights was the first song that we released as a part of For the Lord Studios, but our story really started with the joy of listening to music.

Both Noah and I (Nate), grew up in the same small town in Michigan and loved music for our whole lives. I was constantly making spontaneous songs in social settings where we could all play along in figuring out what the lyrics would be, and Noah secretly learned how to use Logic to produce music.

As a part of the same friend group, we constantly saw each other and, more often than not, we ended up taking these songs and trying our best to produce them in Logic, thinking that they would all be certified bangers.

At the time, though Noah knew the Lord, I didn’t, and I went off to the University of Michigan to study philosophy while he remained a caregiver for adults with developmental disabilities. Over the course of time, the Lord got hold of my heart, and I started pursuing Him with all I had, and he led me back to that same city I grew up in where Noah and I were able to reconnect over music. This time, with purpose.

Noah would tell you that for the majority of the time he spent producing before FTL, he wanted to be able to work with other artists as unto the Lord, but for whatever reason, it just wasn’t happening. The music he made went unreleased, and the motivation to finish a song was lacking due to the similarly lacking purpose in what he was making.

I had the opposite problem. Although I was writing and finishing songs, I had no idea how to get them out there or produce them. Noah and I finally reconnected again, the Lord fueling the desire in both of our hearts to make music unto him. And as it says in 1 Corinthians 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (NIV)

And so, For the Lord Studios was born!

Though we have multiple producers now, FTL’s purpose has been and will always be the same: To make music that glorifies Jesus.

If you have a song on your heart from the Lord, whether you work with us or not, heed the call to make it known! He gave you that song for a reason, and it might be that He wants to reach many people through you.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)
